Before you begin

The endpoints work without a credential, at a limited rate per IP address. A free API key raises that limit considerably and is the right choice for anything running unattended.

Responses carry no CORS headers, so a browser on another site cannot call them directly. Call the API from your backend and pass the result on. That is also where a key belongs: never in page JavaScript.

Data returned by these endpoints is published under the NARC licence: attribution required, non-commercial, non-derivative.

Handling failures

Every endpoint returns a JSON body on failure as well as on success. See errors and status codes for the full list and what each one means.
